Priligy is the new prescription medication approved to treat Premature Ejaculation in men.
Priligy (Dapoxetine) is a short-acting selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) designed to be taken only on-demand or when is needed, usually 1 to 3 hours before sexual activity, rather than taking every day.
Gerald Brock, a professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Urology at the University of western Ontario, who has been involved with company-sponsored trials of the drug said about Priligy: "It typically doubles or triples how long a man can last."
Priligy (Dapoxetine) has received marketing authorisation in Germany, Finland, Sweden, Austria, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Mexico and New Zealand for the on-demand treatment of premature ejaculation in men 18 to 64 years of age. Unfortunately for USA residents, this medication is pending for approval.
Recently, Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development announced its intention to review new dataset of three additional Phase III studies using Priligy (dapoxetine) with the USA Food and Drug Administration.
Fred Eshelman, the founder and executive chairman of PPD said: 'Our hope is that these data will provide additional safety and efficacy information in support of the Priligy new drug application.'
Clinical trials programme for Priligy (dapoxetine) was conducted by Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development. Priligy (Dapoxetine) is marketed by Janssen-Cilag in Europe, part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies.
